Beard transplants use the same FUE principle as scalp restoration: individual follicles harvested from the back of the scalp are re-implanted into the face to create a new beard, thicken a patchy one, extend sideburns, build a defined goatee, or camouflage acne scars and surgical scar gaps. Graft volumes typically run 1,500–2,500 for moustache or sideburn refinement, 2,500–3,500 for a full moderate-density beard, and up to 4,000 for dense coverage on a bare face. Angle and direction matter more than on the scalp — the surgeon implants each graft to match the natural downward sweep of adjacent facial hair, which is what separates a convincing result from a transplanted look. Expect pinpoint scabbing for 7–10 days, a shedding phase at 2–4 weeks, and visible regrowth from month 3. Final density settles at 9–12 months. The transplanted hair is permanent and keeps its scalp-hair growth cycle (slightly faster than native beard), so you shave and trim it like your own.
